We saw the first flight of an interesting new model the other week at the field.
Owned by David Malcolm this ARTF foam warbird looks great with plenty of scale detail, working lights and retractable gear. The model comes about 95% complete with servos, motors and gear all pre-installed. All that is left to do is fit the props, your Rx and battery and fly!
The first flight was handled by Chris Hooper (good to get our test-pilot back from the USA). Although it sprang into the air after only a short roll the throttle had to stay well over 75% for the whole flight. I think this might have more to do with the unrated lipo supplied with the model – a better pack would give a lot more power. Scale speed was excellent (as is always the case with these lightweight foamies) and she looked stunning with the gear up for a low pass.
These models often attract a lot of criticism for their flimsy landing gear. Whilst I tend to agree that this is a weak spot on all ARTF’s, these are no worse – if you don’t want to damage your gear, learn to land properly!
Anyway, I only have the one picture at the moment but I believe there are more out there that I should get hold of soon…
